Chapter 4 — Passion for People
Passion for People
it all began
IN THE TOILET

Eileen

“The Great Commission is not confined to age groups and life stations.” What Pastor Jasmine randomly said to me in the toilet solidified my decision to pioneer the secondary school group in NE Youth.

To bridge our 14-year age gap, I had to deny myself time and again. 1 Corinthians 9:22 became a reality: I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. I began learning their lingo, getting on trends, and even filming TikToks with them!

The group began with 8 HopeKids transfers. I was triple-hatting in the early weeks – planning games, leading worship and teaching the Word. I also had service roles like worship leader, service leader, preacher and stage manager, and took 7 of them as my mentees.

Running at such an intense pace meant that I had to quickly learn the importance of solitude with God. One day, He said to me:

IT’S NOT ABOUT
WHAT YOU
CAN DO.
EVEN IN YOUR
GAPS, THE HOLY
SPIRIT IS THE ONE
DISCIPLING
HIS PEOPLE.

As I learnt to surrender my worries and chose to trust God, He moved in the hearts of the people. They grew in their desire to repent, to grow, and to know Him more. By God’s grace, the group has 75 active members today!

God has been so faithful in this pioneering journey. I know that as I trust in His might, He will continue to lead me and move His ministry forward!
