Arcie was part of my core team and worked as a nurse in Econ Nursing Home. She was so eager to learn that I would frequently take bus 75 from Outram and travel to Bukit Timah just to meet her. We usually met for mentoring in fast food restaurants, but when she couldn’t leave the nursing home because of curfew hours, we would have mentoring outside the locked gate.
Despite her low salary, Arcie had a sacrificial spirit. Because of the nursing home’s curfew hours, she would spend her own money to take a taxi with those who stayed at the nursing home so that they could go to church. She would also cook for her Life Group every week.
Though Arcie passed away 10 years ago from ovarian cancer, her spiritual legacy lives on. She didn’t plan to plant a church or disciple leaders across continents, yet God used her simple obedience to touch lives locally and globally. She showed me what it means to keep showing up – to love and lead God’s people, even when it’s hard!
