Chapter 3 — To the Ends of the Earth
A CHURCH
THAT PLANTS
CHURCHES THAT
PLANT CHURCHES
Pastor Andrew and Ruth with church planters

When we responded to the call to plant a church in South America, we faced many fears and uncertainties. Many of our loved ones strongly objected, and we worried about financial stability. Yet we held on to God’s promise: That as we seek His Kingdom first, He will provide. With that, we stepped out in simple obedience and arrived in Peru.

Starting a church was difficult. We didn’t speak the language and people were closed off. It was hard to find anyone who understood our struggles as we carried the pressure of leading and growing ministries. With little experience, we were often corrected for preaching “bad sermons,” which was discouraging.

In the midst of these challenges, God’s provision was evident. The Holy Spirit prompted us to reflect on our workload and gave us the wisdom to change the way we did things. We learnt to pray for one another and disciple the local leaders instead of doing everything ourselves.

God taught us to enjoy the journey, embracing both mistakes and progress.

By His grace, our marriage grew stronger and we bore and raised our son, Samuel, in the mission field.

Through this journey, we have learnt to be more humble, teachable, and dependent on the Holy Spirit.

From 2019 till now, God has progressively grown this missional seed among the local Latinos. Today, Hope Argentina, Patagonia, and Peru are taking the lead in planting churches in new cities and countries. Hope Singapore’s church planters are just their mentors. By the grace of God, we are producing Latino churches that plant churches!

We are deeply encouraged to see local believers – many who once felt hopeless about their own people and continent – now giving their resources, time, and talents to church planting and church formation. God is igniting a revival, fulfilling the Great Commission across generations of churchplanters, from country to country, from continent to continent!

Local believers who once felt hopeless about their own people are now giving their resources, time, and talents to church planting.

Through this journey, we have learnt to be more humble, teachable, and dependent on the Holy Spirit. We are also deeply thankful for the unwavering support of Hope Singapore, which has sustained us through the years. We would not want to trade this calling and privilege for other things. As God continues to direct us, we will keep doing what we are doing until He says otherwise!

Does this remind you of your journey with God?
